Provocative Pre-Class Question
Why is expanding awareness integral to the coaching process?

Learning Objectives for this module (module #1 of 4)
Why and how to ?expand awareness? as a part of the coaching process
An overview of the 3 fundamental energy pattern shifts: from resisting to feeling, from reacting to thinking clearly, from controlling to acting in concert
A basic awareness of the natural cycle of the coaching process from order to chaos to order to chaos to order (etc.) following each spark of desire.
A basic awareness of conflicting intentions and how they impact our ability to fulfill our desires and objectives
An awareness of how overwhelm, isolation and frustration are the symptoms of ?stuck energy? and how to move the energy to create freedom, openness, trust , and ultimately fulfillment
A basic understanding of coaching techniques for resisting, reacting and controlling
A basic understanding of the role of pattern recognition and pattern shaping in coaching mastery
You will create freedom, openness, and trust in 3 primary objectives in your own life / work where you currently experience isolation.

Learning Objectives for the class (class #1 of 7)
Why expanding awareness? is a part of the coaching process
A brief overview of the 3 fundamental energy pattern shifts: from resisting to feeling, from reacting to thinking clearly, from controlling to acting in concert
Introduction to the natural cycle of the coaching process from order to chaos to order to chaos to order (etc.) following each spark of desire.
You will select three major objectives from your life / work as the subject of exploration for this program

Context (why learn to expand awareness?):
Coaching begins with a desire of the client to accomplish, have or experience something.  An important mantra for coaches is this: no desire, no coaching. The coach inspires the client to clarify the objectives (tangible results) and intentions (way of being).  The next step of the process is personalized teaching: where the coach and client are in collaborative learning mode which leads to informed action (see the "Core Coaching Method" for details on the first two steps of the coaching process)

Now the fun begins!  Whenever an individual steps up to a goal or a challenge that is bigger than what they have done in the past, any pattern of feeling, thought or action that is in conflict with the new desire will rise to the surface and present a problem!  Typically this is experienced by the client as "being stuck" or ?confused.  This is when the coach needs powerful tools to help the coachee "see" (become aware) of where an existing pattern is in conflict with the new desire.  Expanding the ccoachees? awareness in this way is a ?juicy part? of the coaching process and an ever present opportunity for real transformation! (and the subject of this course).

Expanding Awareness and the CoachVille Coaching Process:

To complete the picture, once the inner work is done then the essential final step is to redesign the coachees? environment so that the new pattern(s) have a place to live.  Absent a new environment the client will typically go back to the old way of operating.

Theory: Energy Patterns and "The Core Coaching Method"
In the "Coaching Process" diagram above you can see Energy Pattern Coaching listed under Expand Awareness (and isolation) which leads capacity to feel, concerted action, awareness of conflict and fulfillment.  WOW!  Let's look at how this works:

Sometimes when we have a big new objective and a clear action plan we get right to work and things go exactly as planned.  But, more often we do lots of things that don't add up to the desired result (ie. actions that are not in "concert") OR we don't do the specific things that would lead to the desired result because of some inner conflict - we hold ourselves back.

In either case, expanding awareness is the solution.  When the client is aware of his or her own greatness, they take actions that lead perfectly to the desired result.  When the client is aware of an inner conflict that is holding them back - often this requires deep conversation - they can find a way to resolve it and get moving again.  (we'll talk about this some more in a moment)

IMPORTANT: The natural path to any meaningful objective includes frustration, isolation overwhelm and confusion.  These experiences should not be considered to be ?bad? in any way ? they are expected.  It is more of a problem if they DON?T happen- it often means the goal is not challenging / meaningful enough!

It is the job of the coach to help the client find and resolve the isolation caused by self-imposed limitations that keep him or her playing small.  We call them "intention conflicts" in the form of limiting beliefs, conditioned emotional responses and fear. In this program we will explore the process of expanding awareness; awareness of greatness AND awareness of how thoughts, feelings and actions either support or thwart the expression of greatness.

Questions for Exploration

What does a coach expand awareness of?

·         our greatness

·         our true soul intentions

·         our intention conflicts that have become habits

·         blind spots

·         the flow of energy in and around us

·         our patterns of feeling, thought and action - once it is a pattern we don't see it anymore!

·         the effect of overwhelm, isolation and frustration

What is isolation and what are the causes?

·         ?Safe? actions that can be completed alone but don?t lead to the desired result

·         Avoiding of an action that requires connection with another person ? oddly enough this is often quite frightening

·         Fear of rejection

The ?Energy Pattern Coaching? diagram displays the natural flow of experiences from the spark of desire to fulfillment.

The details of the ?flow of experience? are described more fully in class #2 ?The Path of Greatness?.  Our purpose here is to briefly explain the three main areas of energy.

Feelings ? Thoughts ? Actions:
Body ? Mind - Soul

Feelings ? Body ? Feel Fully
are the physical sensations we have in our bodies - like a feeling in my gut or I "know" in my heart.  These are more than metaphors!  The physical sensations are real and they open the door to our emotions.  The inner conflict occurs when we RESIST specific feelings or the situations that trigger them.   For example, I know I need to make this phone call ( I really want to make it!)  but when I think about it I get a ?bad feeling? in my gut so I put it off until tomorrow.

It goes both ways! Feelings in the body can trigger thoughts AND thoughts can trigger feelings.

Thoughts - Mind ? Think Clearly
?We become what we think about? ? Earl Nightingale
Thoughts are a major source of energy that affect our ability to fulfill out desires.  When our thoughts are clear our actions are energized.  When we REACT to a situation (often emotionally) ? and the mind starts to ?spin? we waste a LOT of energy and our actions can range from ineffective to counter-productive.  When our mind is in full reaction mode we typically isolate ourselves ? when we are open the support of others is readily available.

At their best, our thoughts are the clear connection between body and soul.

Actions ? Soul ? Act in Concert
Action have many, many forms: moving, talking, writing, creating, building.  Our actions are our creative expression in the world.  Often we attempt to CONTROL the actions of others or the outcomes of events in an attempt to ?make it happen?.  Sometimes this does lead to the desired result but with a high cost of stress or negative feelings.  Mostly it leads to frustration!

The path to fulfillment is greatly enhanced by trusting the support of ?the universe? for your good intentions and acting in concert with what is happening around you.  This, of course, is easier said than done ? but it does work.

It's all about moving energy
During our lives we participate in and are the witness to a WIDE variety of experiences.  Some of these experiences happen over and over again and have the effect of "conditioning" our thoughts and feelings.  Often these conditioned thoughts become beliefs - all beliefs become limiting sooner or later.  Often these conditioned feelings are stored in the body as energy ? for example, that uneasy feeling in your stomach when you feel that someone doesn't like you.

Finally, many "one-time" events are traumatic to us in some way and also have the effect of causing limiting beliefs and stored energy.

When we avoid taking an action in the direction of our intentions, it is because there is some energy (thought or feeling) that is creating resistance.

In the remaining classes in this program you will learn how to identify these energy blocks through the study of "pattern language" and then learn how to resolve them through a variety of coaching techniques.

Key shift in thinking:
Coaching masterfully goes way beyond asking questions, listening and creating action plans and accountability
From frustration is a problem to frustration is a necessary part of the growth process
From believing that someone with a problem has something wrong with them to see people as "Great" with possible blocks to that greatness.
From looking at circumstances to looking beneath/beyond/behind the circumstances
From the way to solve problems is to deal with the circumstances to the way to solve problems is to shift energy patterns

Question: How does this makes you a better coach/person?
You will have a better understanding of how to expand awarenes
You?ll have a broader understanding of why people do what they do

Common Mistakes
Thinking that you?re a full fledged philosopher after taking this class
Trying to explain this to a friend at a party
