Overwhelm
Too much on your plate! Too many options, too many tasks, too many ideas, too many emails .... too much!
The feeling of overwhelm has reached epidemic
proportions in our culture. The effect is to "go numb" and typically
we look for something menial or manual to distract us from this very uncomfortable
feeling.
This experience is the natural outcome of the information explosion
brought on by the internet and other forces. Twenty years ago the mantra
was "information is power" as so we sought to make more information
available. Well now we have all the information and opportunity that we could
ever want. We are faced with more messages and decisions and information than
we are currently equiped to manage.
In the face of the feeling of overwhelm
it is essential to learn how to keep the big picture in perspective while having
a reliable formula for knowing what to do next.
This is a challenge because the feeling of overwhelm creates a numbing effect
which disrupts our natural capacity to "know what to do".
